The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) was established on 1st January 2011. It brings together under one roof the long-standing expertise of the German Development Service (DED), the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and InWEnt – Capacity Building International, Germany. As a federally owned enterprise, it supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. We are also engaged in international education work around the globe.

GIZ operates in many fields, including economic development and employment; governance and democracy; security, reconstruction, peace building and civil conflict transformation; food security, health and basic education; and environmental protection, resource conservation and climate change mitigation.

For many years, Viet Nam has been a priority partner country for German Development Cooperation. Projects and programmes cover the following three priority areas of cooperation, which are closely interlinked with the overarching goal of Poverty Reduction: 1) Sustainable Economic Development and Vocational Training; 2) Environmental Policy, Natural Resources and Urban Development; and 3) Health.

The Vietnamese-German “Project for Preservation of Biodiversity in the Forest Eco-systems in Vietnam” is a project of GIZ to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural development. The project covers: (1) Capacity development and communication for awareness raising on forest eco-systems and biodiversity, (2) Sustainable financing mechanisms for NPs and PAs and community-based benefit sharing mechanisms, (3) Support to institutionalization of policies in the field of preservation of biodiversity in forest eco-systems.  The project operates at Hanoi and 3 pilot areas: Ba Be NP and Na Hang NR (Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang), Pu Hu and Pu Luong NRs (Thanh Hoa), and Bach Ma NP (Thua Thien Hue).

GIZ is seeking one qualified and experienced Vietnamese national for the full-time position of

Project Officer

Duty station in Hanoi

Main responsibilities:

Provides professional high quality interpretation at conferences/workshops/meetings and translation of professional reports and documents from Vietnamese to English and vice versa;

  • Files and maintains information and datasets (electronic and printed) relevant for the project;
  • Liaises with and supports internal and external stakeholders in regard to the organisation of events, sharing of information and knowledge;
  • Elaborates articles and press releases on important topics of the project and supports the management and actualization of the web presence of the project.
  • Provides technical support to the project according to assignment
  • Supports the projects monitoring activities, especially in the field of data collection.

Minimum qualifications:

University degree in Foreign Languages, and /or Information Management/Communications

  • At least 3 years of professional working experience in a similar position, experience in similar position in a project/programme of development cooperation is an asset,
  • Good working knowledge of modern telecommunication systems (incl. e-mail and internet),
  • Excellent command of relevant computer programs (primarily MS Office),
  • Languages: excellent proficiency in written and spoken English, knowledge of German is an asset,
  • Demonstrated excellent management and communication skills, incl. communication with high-ranking Vietnamese government officials and international experts,
  • Dynamic and self-motivated character
  • Knowledge about natural resource management is an asset
