At SNV Vietnam, we are seeking for highly qualified national candidates with expertise in REDD to manage the Lowering Emissions in Asia’s Forests (LEAF) program.

SNV is a Netherlands based development organization committed to eliminating poverty and inequity in emerging markets worldwide by promoting Market Based Solutions for the Poor. SNV provides advisory services to leading public and private clients to catalyze innovative and strategic solutions that drive growth and performance while generating jobs, income and improved access to basic services for the low-income segment. SNV focuses on the agriculture, renewable energy and water & sanitation sectors.

SNV together with Winrock International and Climate Focus, along with technical assistance from the U.S. Forest Services will implement the USAID RMDA five-year regional program to strengthen Sustainable Landscapes in the Asia region. This program aims to enhance capacities in forest carbon monitoring, create enabling policies and market incentives, demonstrate sustainable forest and land management practices through pilot activities, and share and replicate lessons and innovations through regional platforms and partnerships. Activities will focus on six pilot countries, including Vietnam.

SNV, in collaboration with VN FOREST, will be supporting the implementation of activities in Vietnam. We are seeking a highly qualified national candidates to manage the REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) activities under the Lowering Emissions in Asia’s Forests (LEAF) program:

1. Senior Advisor REDD/Project Manager Vietnam

Duty station: Hanoi with frequent travel to other provinces

Main duties and responsibilities:
–       Engage closely and provide support to our national partners in Vietnam
–       Work with and provide input into the National REDD+ Working Groups and sub- Technical Groups, and provide frequent updates on our work;
–       Implement the LEAF program in Vietnam and ensure achievement of project results and objectives
–       Work in close collaboration with the LEAF regional team based in Bangkok
–       Monitor overall targets and milestones for all the project objectives and ensure targets are being met
–       Liaise with relevant and likeminded projects and initiatives
–       Establish relationships with provincial and district level authorities
–       Timely preparation and submission of reports and other deliverables
–       Profiling and positioning of the project through documentation and dissemination of good practices

Requirements:
–       Master’s Degree in Natural Resource Management, Forestry, Sustainable Development or relevant field.
–       Eight years of relevant experience in forestry, forest carbon, REDD+, and/or natural resource management projects.
–       Has proven track record of managing complex projects and staff.
–       Experience in Project Cycle Management including Financial Management.
–       Skills in managing complex forestry and livelihood projects.
–       Knowledge management and knowledge transferring skills.
–       Up- to-date knowledge on forest carbon and REDD+, and knowledge of the related situation in Vietnam.
–       Strong leadership qualities and excellent skills in networking with stakeholders and in positioning of a project.
–       Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills (English and Vietnamese)
–       Demonstrated and proven record to work in a multidisciplinary team under changeable and complex circumstances.
–       Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Power Points)

2. Advisor REDD/Site Manager

Duty station: to be based in the field in North Central (to be chosen project area) with travel to Hanoi
Main duties and responsibilities:
–       Responsible for implementing the project intervention on-site
–       Carry out site visits and awareness raising workshops with the local communities;
–       Help in collecting baseline information for site areas (both on forest carbon and socio-economic issues);
–       Assess relevance and local understanding of policies and measures to address forest degradation and deforestation; introduce such measures;
–       Introduce schemes to monitoring, report and verify emission reductions
–       Assess livelihood strategies and options with the local communities, and  facilitate consultants and local capacity builders to carry out assessments in the project area
–       Help facilitate training as necessary to partners, beneficiaries, and counterparts;
–       Work closely with the LEAF team in Vietnam and collaborate with regional Forest and Climate Change advisors
–       Preparation and submission of reports and other deliverables to the LEAF Project Manager Vietnam
Requirements:
–       University Degree in Natural Resource Management, Forestry, or relevant development field.
–       At least five years experience in implementing or managing field projects
–       Technical knowledge in forestry, forest carbon, community forestry (preference for someone with  exposure to Forest Carbon projects though  on the job training will be provided)
–       Demonstrated record to work with participatory approaches and under changeable and complex circumstances.
–       Good experience in collection, management and analysis of data
–       Strong  skills in working with local communities and local government offices
–       Demonstrating initiatives and ability to work independently
–       Skills in training and facilitation; and in the use of participatory planning and monitoring approaches
–       Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills (English and Vietnamese)
–       Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Power Points)

Duration of assignment
SNV offers one-year contract with the possibility of extension and a competitive salary package.
