Objectives of the Programme
To implement effective interventions through a multisectoral partnership aimed at reducing the high fatality rate of road traffic injury and building capacity and raising awareness on road traffic injury prevention.

De scri ption of duties
Under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Technical Officer ? HIV, Youth and Health Promotion and the WHO Representative, the incumbent will perform the following functions:

1. Provide support to the Technical Officer (Injury and Violence Prevention), in liaising with relevant government institutions, nongovernmental organizations, the academe and other road safety stakeholders including relevant staff both in the regional office and WHO Headquarters;
2. Collaborate with partner agencies in the development and implementation of training, advocacy and related materials and information such as increasing helmet and seat-belt use, reducing drinking/driving and increasing visibility of road users;
3. Provide support to the Technical Officer in all project related work, including the organization and running of workshops, development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation plans for all project components and carry out administrative activities that would ensure effective programme execution;
4. Provide support in drafting technical and financial project reports for donors, partners and other stakeholders;
5. Provide support in the collection of relevant country level data for inclusion in the Global Road Safety Report, such as gathering appropriate information on relevant legislations and conducting studies relating to helmet and seat-belt wear; and
6. Perform other related duties as may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education:
Essential: Degree in medicine, social sciences or related field from a recognized university/institution.
Desirable: Postgraduate degree in public health or related sciences.

Functional Skills and Knowledge:
Sound analytical and writing skills to identify critical issues and prepare a variety of documents and briefing materials. Broad knowledge of the United Nations system, particularly with WHO policies and procedures. Ability to provide guidance on matters related to the programme on injury prevention. Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team, adapt to diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.

Experience:
Essential: Two years experience in road traffic injury prevention or injury prevention. Experience in implementing and evaluating projects. Experience in working at community and national levels in a developing country.
Desirable: Experience in the development of advocacy materials. Teaching and training experience.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English and the local language
