CHF is a Canadian non-governmental organization with over 10 years of experience in sustainable livelihoods development in Vietnam and over 40 years worldwide. Among other projects, CHF currently implements a Livelihood Improvement of Vulnerable Ethnic Minority Communities Affected by the Song Bung 4 Hydropower Project technical assistance package for the Asian Development Bank in Quang Nam. The focus of the technical assistance is to work with the project’s resettlement management and implementation units (RMIU) in to provide sufficient assets to villagers affected by the hydropower project as they move to new villages, and to build sustainable livelihoods with those villagers after the move.

The role of the Uplands Agriculture Specialist is to provide technical assistance and capacity building in the areas of uplands agriculture. The specialist will comment on site development plans, ensure that agriculture is supported within the context of livelihood planning for new villages, train extension officers and villagers in new agricultural techniques, and support project planning, monitoring and evaluation. It is hoped that the candidate will also have experience in agro-forestry, and will be able to support activities in this area as well.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of experience working in uplands agriculture
  • Broad experience in uplands agriculture, include wet rice preparation and cultivation, vegetables, legumes and fruit trees
  • Understanding of uplands irrigation models and systems
  • Experience training agricultural extension officials Willingness to work in difficult conditions and travel to remote communes by motorbike and on foot
  • Experience working with ethnic minority peoples in an empowering manner
  • Excellent writing skills in Vietnamese and ability to produced detailed reports

Terms and Conditions

The salary is to be negotiated depending on candidate’s experience. CHF is prepared to offer a very competitive salary to the appropriate candidate. This is a full time position based in Nam Giang, Quang Nam. CHF will begin to review CVs on Friday May 29th and will continue until the post is filled.
