The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is seeking a qualified and experienced Vietnamese national for the full-time position of: Project Officer (Translator)

Duty station: Bac Lieu Province

The GIZ project “Adaptation to Climate Change through the Promotion of Biodiversity in Bac Lieu Province” aims at improving the ecological functionality of coastal forests and the livelihood of people depending on coastal forests.

There are five focus areas of work within the project as follows:

1. Coastal Zone Management and Coastal Protection

2. Conservation of Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary

3. Improvement of Coastal Livelihood

4. Enhancement of Local Capacity

5. Environment Education

Main responsibilities:

• In charge/ main resource person for all kinds of translations/ interpretations and the management of provided external translation support (if necessary);

• Consecutive oral interpretation of all bilateral, team, group meetings and social events (with the Vietnamese partner and if necessary within the project team);

• Consecutive (or simultaneous if technically possible) interpretation of larger conferences and workshops;

• Translation of all kinds of documents (e.g. official letters, written communication with Vietnamese partner institutions, scientific papers, all kinds of written project products from Vietnamese into English and vice versa);

• Ensure close cooperation and communication with Vietnamese partner institutions;

• Facilitate/ moderate workshops (Master of Ceremony); facilitation of Training of Trainers (ToT) workshops with regards to moderation and adult-learning skills if necessary;

• Liaise with and support internal and external stakeholders in regard to the organisation of events, sharing of information and knowledge;

• Responsible in the preparation, execution and documentation of PR publications.

Minimum qualifications:

• University degree in English and at least 3 years of working experience as an interpreter for international companies or projects;

• Or a university degree in a natural science (e.g. Forestry, Biology, Marine Sciences, Geography) or economic science related subject with more than 5 years working experience as an interpreter in an international company/ project;

• Experience with consecutive and simultaneous interpretation at conferences or international meetings;

• Moderation and facilitation skills, experience as a trainer (adult-learning methods) is an asset;

• Project management experiences;

• Proficiency with Windows XP and MS Office 2007;

• Ability to work independently and in an international and cultural diverse team;

• Good communication and cooperation skills, specially with the Vietnamese counterpart organisations at all project implementation levels;

• Meet deadlines, work under time pressure and occasionally oblige to irregular and long working hours;

• Dynamic and self-motivated character;

• Experience with similar positions in other development cooperation project/programmes is an asset;

• Working experience in the Mekong Delta, especially in Bac Lieu, with knowledge and contacts to the local administration, and private-sector service providers is an asset.
