Context
The VVOB education program for 2008-2010 in Vietnam aims to improve the quality of lower secondary education in 5 provinces of North and Central Vietnam through an integrated support to the Active Teaching and Learning (ATL) change processes by means of Environmental Education and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
The program consists of 3 components: strengthening of educational management, capacity building at the Teacher Training Colleges, and strengthening of social participation to education.
1. Vacancy local project coordinator: Social participation to Education (and mainstreaming gender)
VVOB is looking for a Vietnamese coordinator in charge of the component of Social Participation, who will also be responsible for the mainstreaming of gender in VVOB Vietnam’s education and agricultural extension programs.
The component of social participation aims at a strengthened relation between school, mass organizations (esp. Women’s Union and Youth Union) and broader community in support of the Active Teaching and Learning change processes.
Partner for the implementation of this component is the Education Department of the Vietnamese Women’s Museum in Hanoi, and the Women’s Unions and Youth Unions in 5 provinces (Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai).
Responsibilities
– You guide and support a local team
– You adapt modules regarding Active Teaching and Learning, Environmental Education and ICT, for the local women’s and youth unions.
– You give advice to local teams of parents, of women’s and youth unions in support of the ATL implementation in schools
– You train and advise schools in the mobilization of the community to participate at education
– You plan and organize training sessions for trainers of women’s and youth unions in the 5 provinces
– You assure the quality of the training sessions, and are able to give training yourself
– You organize follow-up activities to the training at the provincial women’s and youth unions
– You report on project activities and results
– You are responsible for a sound financial management
– You participate at the set-up of a knowledge center on gender
– You advise and support the education and agricultural extension teams with the development of instruments, activities and impact measurement on gender
PROFILE
Training
Social diploma, or similar through experience
Skills and experience
You have relevant experience in education and/or community development
You have a vision on how the link between school and community can be strengthened
You have knowledge of and experience in working with communities
You have a vision on how gender can best be integrated in the education and agricultural extension program
You possess project management skills
You have minimum 2 years of experience in project management
Your experience with international cooperation is a plus
You have excellent knowledge and skills in English, both written and oral
You have excellent communication and social skills
You are able to take focused action with a view to obtain results

PLACE
You will work in Hanoi, with the education department of the Vietnamese Women’s Museum. You coordinate with the project coordinators of the educational management and teacher training (Environmental Education and ICT) components. Regular working trips to the 5 aforementioned provinces are part of the assignment.
2. Vacancy local project coordinator: Environmental Education in Teacher Training (and Environmental Mainstreaming)
VVOB is looking for a Vietnamese program-coordinator for the Environmental Education component. He/she will also be responsible for the mainstreaming of environment in VVOB Vietnam’s education and agricultural extension programs.
The component of capacity building at the Teacher Training Colleges focuses on promotion and development of Environmental Education, with the aim to support ATL change processes.
Partners for the implementation of this component are the teacher training colleges and the education and training departments as well as a limited number of pilot schools in five provinces (Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai).
Responsibilities
– You work with a program coordinator and assist in guiding and supporting local teams in Hanoi and in the five aforementioned provinces.
– You develop active Teaching and Learning training modules integrating Environmental Education.
– You give advice to officials, teacher trainers, principals and teachers in support of the ATL implementation in schools
– You support and advise teacher training colleges and schools with the integration of environmental education and awareness building on their role and function for environmental protection
– You plan and organize training sessions for officials, teacher trainers, principals and teachers in the 5 provinces
– You assure the quality of the training sessions, and are able to give training yourself
– You organize follow-up activities to the training in the teacher training colleges and the schools
– You report on project activities and results
– You advise and support the education and agricultural extension teams with the development of instruments, activities and impact measurement on environmental mainstreaming
PROFILE
Training
Relevant Environmental and/or Educational Diploma, or similar through experience
Skills and experience
You have a minimum of 2 years of relevant and demonstrable experience in the education and/or environment sector
You have a vision on how the development of environmental education can be strengthened
You have knowledge of and experience in working with the education system and/or environmental sector
You possess project management skills, and you have minimum 2 years of experience in project management
You can synthesize and report on your findings
Your experience with international cooperation is a plus
You have excellent knowledge and skills in English, both written and oral
You have excellent communication and social skills
You are able to take focused action with a view to obtain results
You are able to support a team in obtaining results, and to assist them explicitly in their professional development
You show integrity and creativity
